Venturing Close to Home
Southland investors aim to foster more start-ups in the region
By Alex Pham
7/07/04

In Silicon Valley, "you literally have dozens of venture capitalists on Sand Hill Road within a five-building complex" in Menlo Park, said Hoshi Printer, president of the Software Council of Southern California, which hosts VentureNet, an annual event for software entrepreneurs and investors. "Here, it is so geographically dispersed that it's difficult to create that same sense of community."

Host/Producer: Tony Kinkela
Guests: Hoshi Printer, Software Council president & Patrick MacDonald King, president and CEO of DAX Solutions, a company that received funding directly from its appearance at VentureNet 2003.

Show aired throughout the week of 10/03/04

"At VentureNet we were probably two or three months into our funding process. I think it provided us with great exposure to the VC community as well as solidified a lot of our business model. We had a great audience."
-- Patrick MacDonald King

"VentureNet brings together two sets of people. The first are the set of entrepreneurs like you mentioned, Patrick, and they need access to capital. They have growing companies and to stabilize their own companies they need access to capital. And the other side we bring together are the investors, so, the angel investors, venture capitalists, investment banks, or just plain investors."
-- Hoshi Printer
